Introduction

From the moment we are born, we begin to age. We start the journey, hopefully over many, many years and we trust that we are going to be healthy, vital and pain free to the very end. Our bodies are set on a path from birth and our role is to support it as it travels. However, our modern lifestyle, and the choices that we make for ourselves regarding diet and environment, makes it difficult for the body to remain healthy and vital.

I came late to the notion that food might be my salvation, since food was the reason for my downfall in the first place. It took a rather nasty and surprising visit to a consultant who thankfully was short on bedside manner and long on telling the truth. If I did not get my act together, he said, it would not be necessary for me to make any long-term plans. Always the joker and the life and soul of the party, I now had to face the fact that rocketing blood pressure and cholesterol levels were no laughing matter.

I had been on a constant diet for half my life. I had starved and combined, restricted and juiced, crunched, denied myself and binged on junk food to achieve a whopping 150 kilos (330lbs). I was stressed out in a job that had become less and less rewarding and my body was at the end of its tether. In addition to all the usual obesity related problems, I was also suffering the symptoms of degenerative diseases such as arthritis and circulatory problems. It was one of the lowest points in my life, but as with most things the only way is up. I made a decision that was to change the entire course of my life. I took control, threw away the diet books and started researching food and health and how it affected me.

This was where my passion for the incredible power of food began. Today I am fit and healthy with a lifestyle that would have been totally alien to me ten years ago. I used to take many things for granted but today I respect and understand not only my body, but also the food that I put into it. It would be wonderful to think that this is the answer to every disease and to ageing. I am afraid that it is not the whole solution, but it is a great place to start.

Over the last ten years I have worked with hundreds of clients who are not only looking to lose weight but to improve their quality of life. Improving the pain levels and symptoms associated with some of our most common ageing conditions such as Arthritis can make a huge difference to the way a person can live their life.

My main philosophy is Oxygen, Water and the most Nutritional food you can eat. These three elements are the starting point for any health plan and each program will be designed specifically for each client with their individual lifestyles in mind.

As a human race we have evolved from ‘eating to live’ to a modern day society that ‘lives to eat’. At no other time in our history have we been offered so many choices regarding the food we consume, the lifestyle that we follow, or the parts of the world that we can live in and travel to.

There is a downside to this freedom and that is the price that our bodies pay to live in this modern world. Pollutants surround us in our water, in the air that we breathe and in the materials that we come in contact with. There are pesticides, hormones, contaminants, heavy metals, viruses and bacteria in the food that we eat, even if we feel that our diet is 'healthy’. Miracle drugs have been developed to supersede the bodies own defence systems that have now become ineffective. We are now able to ingest excessive amounts of sugar, salt, fat and additives thanks to a creative food manufacturing industry that caters to our desire for fast food that satisfies our increasingly jaded palates.

It takes thousands of years for an organism to genetically modify and adapt to a change in environment, but we have asked our bodies to adapt to this modern world in just a few hundred years. Our bodies simply cannot cope with the stress and now more than ever, people are suffering from chronic and degenerative diseases such as allergies, chronic fatigue, stress, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.

It no longer seems possible for the majority of us to reach middle age and then our old age without taking medication for blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, hormone replacement and arthritic anti-inflammatories. We have abdicated our own well being, into the hands of fad diets and the medical profession who seem to be overwhelmed with patients, whose ailments could be corrected or improved with lifestyle and dietary changes.

We seem to have lost the progressive nature of old age, which should be graceful, healthy, pain free and vital to the end. Medication for disease and common ailments should be the final solution not the immediate remedy for symptoms.

My aim is to introduce a new approach to your lifestyle. It is not about restriction, doing without and starving. It is about eating wonderfully delicious food that gives your body the nutrients it needs to support itself and you, as you live in this modern world. It is about taking control and making informed decisions that will effect you right through your life into a healthy and active old age.

I will make a commitment to you to support you through the process of changing your lifestyle, provided you can commit to following the program that I individually design for you, for six weeks.

Let me show you how ‘Eating to Live’ can be so rewarding.
