MY BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

I travelled a great deal as a child - to Sri Lanka, Malta and South Africa - with my father and family. He was in the Navy so we would spend two years abroad and then two years back in the UK. Fascinating if a little disruptive. My weight problems began after extensive antibiotics were prescribed, over the course of a year, for tonsillitis. I was eleven years old and that year and I put on over three stone. I was to spend the next thirty two years on one diet or another.

I worked in the Hotel industry for many years and sampled far too much of the wonderful available food. In between I would starve myself. I then moved into the Advertising Industry and then Communications. I did well in all my jobs, being promoted to senior executive level.

Then came the crunch time, at forty-three, when I was told that I was unlikely to live very much longer if I remained at the same weight of 330 lbs and with the same excruciatingly high levels of cholesterol and blood pressure.

It was at this point, having tried every diet under the sun that I decided to find out why none of them had worked.

This meant that I had to undertake a somewhat traumatic journey back through my past to try and pinpoint the areas where I had gone wrong and it took some surprising twists and turns.

For the last ten years I have been sharing my discoveries and my knowledge of food and nutrition with over 1000 clients in Ireland where I ran the Cronin Diet Advisory Centre and in the UK where I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist.

I write under the name Georgina Cronin and my first book “Size Matters was published in 2003. This was my story and also the program that I designed for myself and for my clients. This was followed in 2004 with my first novel. A light-hearted romance called “Just an Odd Job Girl.

In June 2004 I began broadcasting on Ondacero International (OCI) here in Spain, with a weekly health program. I now appear every Thursday morning on The Brenda Padilla Show. We cover all aspects of health and food and also set the listeners a challenge or two. Over the past few years I have also published a number of articles in magazines, in the UK and in Spain, and I also made a number of speaking appearances.

All in all, if I look back over the last ten years, I have travelled not only 1000’s of miles across Europe -living in London, Brussels and Dublin- but I have also journeyed light years in my own life. Whilst I still do not have a supermodel figure, my blood pressure and cholesterol are normal and my life is no longer in danger. I do not suffer from the obesity and degenerative conditions that were in evidence ten years ago and I manage to walk at least six miles a day. I look forward to each day and to living a long an active life.

Today, whilst I work with clients across the World via the Internet, I am writing two further books, one on anti-ageing and the other is a novel. Life is very good.
